Anthony Vaccarello decided to show Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection through a breathtakingly choreographed short film. The film depicts a global cast of characters in rakishly handsome fits sweeping across locations in Paris, Beijing, and New York before returning to a dazzling pyrotechnic runway constructed on the gleaming Eiffel Tower.
While it all seems a bit dramatic, Vaccarello’s approach to designing the collection is actually quite the opposite. It’s always evolving every season yet the wardrobe remains coherent and each piece is greater than the sum of its parts.
Indeed, the collection’s versatility is what makes it so special. Take the shark-collar shirt, for example. The tropical leaf motif is perfect for a jaunt at the beach and its muted tones can transition into a night on the town without a hitch. Saint Laurent’s iconic Teddy bomber jacket gets its boldest makeover yet with an all-over jungle damask motif. Gorgeous details like a scalloped yoke, western flap pockets, and lamé-striped ribbed collar bring it all together for a subtle statement piece that’s easy to flex in.
