Highsnobiety Staffers Talk Their Favorite 420 Treats to Snack On

No matter how (or where) you celebrate 420 this year, it’s always best to prepare ahead of time. Whether that’s upgrading your stonerware to better suit a grown-up lifestyle, or simply stocking your pantry with goodies once those munchies inevitably kick in, we’ve got you covered. This year we decided to ask our colleagues what their favorite treats are to snack on to cure those 420 cravings.

Staffers from our Berlin, New York, and Los Angeles offices chimed in with an eclectic mix of foods ranging from ice cream bars and roasted wasabi peas to mango slices drenched in hot sauce. Scroll to explore some of our favorite treats to munch on and grab some of your own this 420.

“If I’m feeling like a walk in LA I’ll go get some dulce de leche banana cream pie from Cassell’s in Koreatown, or if a bike ride is in order it’s buñuelos from La Fonda Antioqueña on Melrose. “When cream cheese is eaten it’s usually cold, so it’s a nice contrast to the heat of the Hot Cheetos’ spice levels. The creaminess of the cream cheese is a great supplement to the crispiness of the chips. It hits differently especially after I smoke because I can go back and forth with the taste of the two items and it reminds me so much of my childhood. “Growing up in Korea, my favorite mid-day snack was the fun popsicles they have at every convenience store. There was always a wide array of flavors ranging from melon, red bean to whatever the latest flavor trend is! “I used to take pleasure in getting bodied on a pint of ice cream after a smoke sesh. With age and experience — paired with the delayed metabolism of an early-30s desk hand — it was only right to evolve my eating patterns. Now, I go hammy for a still-sweet but less-consequential street snack. Nothing beats cranking a bag of chili mangos with the posse during a hazy day out skating. “If you’re new to the world of Asian snack foods, prepare to have your mind blown. Found mainly in specialty Asian markets, Calbee shrimp chips are a staple bar snack in Japan and are a great potato chip alternative when craving something savory. If you have a knack for spice, roasted wasabi peas are a marginally healthier option that’ll leave your taste buds on fire. When satiating a sweet tooth, I like to have a bag of Kasugai gummy candies on deck. Kasugai is a famous Japanese candy and snack manufacturer founded in 1928, and their gummy candies made from real fruit juices are simply addicting. “Any type of Kinder chocolate is a go-to when you grow up in Germany, but the Kinder Maxi King is the one that stands out the most. It’s a deliciously fresh milk cake with a layer of caramel inside and covered in crushed hazelnut chocolate. They also had a great TV ad with reggae artist Shaggy in the 2000s.
